Five-lined skink (Plestiodon fasciatus) exhibiting caudal autotomy (i.e. self-amputation), where by the skink sheds its tail as a self-defense tactic. The predator is momentarily distracted by the wiggling discarded appendage, leaving enough time for the skink to get away.
